Una nuova “visione” della neuropatia nel diabete

A new “vision” of neuropathy in diabetes

The eye, as a neuronal organ and a privileged window to the nervous system, represents a potential tool for the early identification of neurological damage in diabetes, opening new perspectives for the prevention and management of neurodegenerative complications. Two components are primarily involved in this neurodegenerative process: the retina and the cornea. Neural tissue alterations in these structures, already detectable in the early stages of diabetic vascular retinopathy, are also associated with diabetic neuropathy and cognitive decline.
