This document aims to clarify the position of scientific societies and associations of people with diabetes regarding the use of Do It Yourself (DIY) software and algorithms approved only by the FDA, but not yet by the European/Italian regulatory agency. DIY systems are already used in Italy and technical support is offered by web community, with important medical-legal issues. The document describes most used technologies and briefly illustrates different algorithms; a paragraph has been inserted to clarify the medical-legal issues linked to the use of these systems with particular focus on Italian legal context. Finally, we reported a survey proposed to DIY technologies users that clearly shows participants’ satisfaction with DIY systems.
